Search engines are totally useless now. They used to be helpful back in the 00’s and 10’s when they actually indexed more than the same sites for every single search. But now you can expect to never find new information on these engines, which feel like they’ve been taken over by shills and spam anyway.
The Same Annoying Results Every Time
Search engines like Google mostly give you three types of results on almost every search, and they’re really annoying:
Popular Sites You Didn’t Ask For
You get 5 results from an annoying list of “most popular” websites like Facebook, X, and other shill sites. Reddit in particular is abysmal. There’s always some Reddit post that matches your query and gets shoved to the top. It’s a poorly written site, hard to navigate, threads are confusing—idk.
This is even worse with social media sites like Facebook, X, and Instagram. These sites have a lot of junk content and all of it is indexed by Google. When you click, you can only see the content for 5 seconds until the website asks you to sign in or register your soul.
News Sites and Shill Sites
There are some sites I will never visit, such as CNN and a few other legacy media outlets. The whole point of the internet is to have a network of individual communication with people all over the world, which legacy media cannot do with its corporate business talk. I don’t want to know what these sites say, because I already know what they say.
AI-Written SEO Garbage
So many results now come from AI-written shill sites with massively bloated articles full of generic content. These sites rely heavily on SEO and compete to be placed at the top of all search results, which just makes the situation worse.
My Small Step to Fix This Problem
My small step to remove this problem involved using a search engine that doesn’t do this kind of stuff.
